How Do Implants Improve Oral Health

Posted on 3/20/2019 by Front Desk
How Do Implants Improve Oral HealthIf you have broken, chipped or lost teeth, you have several options to fix the problem. The solutions range from veneers, to dentures, to living with the problem to implants. Many people think of implants as an expensive option that takes time and is painful.

They avoid this option because they do not understand how implants improve their oral health. It is something that people need to know about when they have to decide what to do with the problems they have with their teeth.

Filling the Gaps in Teeth

The first way that implants improve dental health is by filling in the gaps that result when teeth are broken or lost. The implants provide support to the surrounding teeth. This prevents them from shifting and moving. It can also help prevent any more teeth from breaking or falling out.

Implants also improve the appearance. Instead of gaps in the teeth that prevent a person from smiling, the implants look like the natural teeth. People with implants are not afraid to eat the foods they want and to show everyone how much they enjoy it with a big smile.

Other Benefits of Implants

Filling in the gaps may seem like an obvious way to improve oral health, but it is not the only way that implants accomplish this. They also help with bone density. Missing teeth also lead to bone loss. When implants are in place, the bone does not suffer.

Implants also help prevent the spread of gum disease. Missing or broken teeth provide an area for bacterial growth that can lead to gum disease. The implants fill in the spaces. It also means the surrounding teeth are less likely to develop cavities because there are less bacteria.

The other choice many people turn to instead of implants is dentures. Dentures present their own list of problems which do not happen with implants. Instead of causing more problems, the implants prevent them from happening.
